If ever I were to meet men in real life who resembled any action hero-like qualities—such as strong masculinity, toughness, coolness, and charisma—I’d observe them closely. Icing on the cake for men with skills and sick rides is style. A good sense of fashion that plays into utility, represents toughness, and keeps a classic look that complements a svelte physique is key.
Style as a Reflection of Self
It could be said that dressing well is good manners. In my opinion, image is crucial to how you interact with the world, and how it responds. Dress like shit, get shit energy. Style has nothing to do with expensive or designer brands. In fact, that isn’t really style at all, because it’s been homogenized and bought without thought or creativity.
Men with a true X factor here would know how to complement their body, find a consistent look, use quality products to fit their needs and activities, and place a special touch of their personality within a simple framework. When a man has chosen his lifestyle, and it is unwavering along with his beliefs, the material surrounding him is minimal, as it is all pointed towards one thing. This is what creates consistency, and it shows outwardly in your appearance.
Virtue Signaling Through Fashion
When the garment choices are based on preference and utility, they show scars and age but don’t follow trends, and the world recognizes this. The recognition is sometimes conscious or subconscious. It is the difference between two different judgments: poser or veteran.
When your fashion style finds you through your lifestyle, so does your peer group. Virtue signaling is everywhere whether we like it or not. Try or try not, you are doing it too. It seems to me that many men dress in a way that seems “practical,” not caring to put forth effort in their appearance. Generally speaking, this is surrounded by a lack of confidence due to being out of shape, uninspired, and without imagination or character.
Overcompensation and Insecurity
On the flip side, I see a lot of these types of men overcompensating with expensive—but not quality—clothing, and all for clout. Granted, and I’m guilty as charged, when you focus on your image a little too hard at times, it can look a little gay. One accessory too many and all of a sudden you’re looking like you’re playing for the other team.
Confidence in your style comes from comfort, usefulness, and sentiment. What would truly make a style yours is wearing a piece of jewelry that means something to you—either spiritually or nostalgically. Representing your brothers and the crew you run with, with patches on your gear that you have earned. This all tells your story subtly, gaining the respect and understanding of people you come into contact with.
The Value of Standing Firm
The reality is, style can be perpetuated and it is obvious. When the tattoos aren’t yours, the bars aren’t won, and the body doesn’t show results, no one is fooled. As youngsters, many of us are caught between changing beliefs, hobbies, jobs, and interests. When we haven’t stood on business and we are switching up our persona as fast as our underwear, it’s hard to attract a community to lean into for support and solidarity.
I’ve discussed previously in other writing that being so open-minded is more of a flaw than a virtue. Convincing peers to uproot and upgrade to a better ethos and lifestyle is often futile. It’s better to just surround yourself with the group of people who have what you have or want. We may all represent that in our own ways, but a man who stands firm in his beliefs and values will be respected and be recognized right off rip.
The Rhino Ryu Philosophy
Rhino Ryu is a lifestyle in its entirety. From a dedicated martial arts system, to a passion for motorsports, and the embodiment of counterculture. Directly driven out of the fusion of American and Japanese cultures, brought forth by the fluidity and freedom of Thailand, where this is celebrated openly.
My wife’s shop and club, powered by the brand, are here not as a “try it on,” but as a magnet for those who are of this pedigree. We are bridging the generational gap by focusing on our families and inspiring our youth. We are connected with the essence of living in the moment, and escaping the mental prison that is social media.
A brotherhood is crucial to survival as we all bring our skills together to convert a dream into a reality. We have a system and a code to live by, with honor, discipline, respect, and courage. Fighting and riding cannot be faked, and they share dire consequences. These consequences are worth the risk, because a life in a bubble following the sheeple is suicide.
